     What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word rat? If you are like most of the population, you probably thought about their “contribution” to the bubonic plague, or their residency in the subways of New York City. However, if you are someone that said they are cute and cuddly pets- yes you are correct, that is the only right answer, and I love you.

     Yes, while rats are known for many negative things like infestation and spreading disease, you would be surprised at how good pets they really do make. Their incredibly smart minds mixed with their charming personalities check off all the qualities that a perfect pet has.

1. Rats have the best personalities

Rats have such unique personalities that shine through in their behaviors, actions, and even in their interactions with their siblings- like pushing one of their siblings out of their hammock for the fun of it (I’m looking at you Chester). Though they may show their love to their fellow rat siblings in um… unique ways, they can also be very affectionate, often greeting you with a lick on the finger, or by holding your hand while you pet their head until they fall asleep in your hand.
