⚠️
This contains spoilers for Steven Universe seasons 1-5. If you haven't watched it yet, what are you doing?! GO!!!
When I was growing up, I was ye average child. I ate dirt, nearly drowned on multiple occasions, and had allergic reactions to miscellaneous things. I didn't know that the same gender could date. Not that it was intentionally excluded from my life--I was just never told or shown this possibility. To be fair, it's not as if I naturally assumed men and women should be together. Quite the opposite! I thought all my peers getting into relationships was silly, and that I would rather watch my rainbow rock show.
My gay rainbow rock show.
My gay rainbow rock show that told me that you didn't have to be in a relationship at all to be happy, which was something I had been told growing up. The same show that showed me I didn't have to be a girl like I'd been told. The same show that introduced me to the concept of lesbianism.
Steven Universe made me gay.
I would like to preface by saying that when I used the word "gay" in the title and introduction, I meant it as an umbrella term for the whole LGBTQ+ community. I don't actually consider myself to be gay; I label myself as aromantic, asexual, and somewhere ambiguous on the gender spectrum. Sorry for clickbaiting you.
