As someone who has lived in the Florida sun for 17 years, I consider myself an expert on summer. While summer is pretty much year-round under the Florida sun, there's a vibe that you can't quite replicate in any other months that happens in June and July. So without further ado, here are the objectively best ways to spend your summer.
Mud Wars
If you ever have the urge to get dirty, this one's for you. I thought of this game one hot summer night with my friends. All you have to do is get some dirt, some water, and an open area. Then, you start throwing!
While this may sound childish, it is truly a marvelous sight to behold. A game for boys becomes war as mud rockets cut through the air. A comrade gets hit by a piece of shrapnel, and dirt erupts from the ground. As you sit in filth, you wonder how you got into this mess. Your legs sit in front of you, caked in mud.
The best part about a mud war is that it leads into many other fun activities, such as the next one on the list!
Swimming in the river
Swimming in the river is a tricky task in Florida due to the prehistoric monsters that live in the water. However, if you know the right spot, it is completely safe (jk for legal reasons, probably don't try this at home).
One day, I was thinking about how good people up North have it where they can just jump into the water off of a dock whenever they want with no worries of being eaten alive. I eventually came to the conclusion that I could do the same thing, and ended up running off the dock at my local park, sinking into the perilous reptilian waters.
When I emerged, I realized how AMAZING it felt to be able to get a break from the sun without a pool. Was I covered in algae? Yes. Did I regret a thing? No.
Tree Climbing
On days when it's too hot out, and you need shade, the perfect place to find it is under a nice shady tree more often than not. Who says you need to be at the bottom of the tree, though? I find that the best place to seek shade is at the top!
Many of my summer days have been filled with tree climbing. The highest I have ever been in a tree is 50 feet, but I aim to go higher someday. The thing that makes tree climbing so fun is the reward you get from sitting at the top on a warm summer day and feeling the breeze flow under your feet. This is an activity that can be done alone, but I always do it with friends. This is for safety reasons, and because if you find two trees next to each other, what better way to compete than to see who can get higher quicker!!!
If you don't like heights, there are many small trees that still pose challenges! If you don't like tree climbing at all, this last summer escapade may be just for you.
Make a Lemonade Stand
Who says you're too old to make a lemonade stand? What better way to fuel your creativity (and bank account) than making a lemonade stand on the side of the road and seeing how much business you can get?
Hire employees to make the lemonade! Franchise! Make the best lemonade stand you can dammit! You will have no competition when the summer is over. If you don't like lemonade, I'm not sure what's wrong with you, but switch lemonade out for any other cold summer treat and go hog wild!
These are just some of the many activities you can participate in to have the best summer possible!
